Still where I want to be

I had my first day teaching with the after school program I joined this year and it went well.

It just shows me and reminds me that the classroom is truly where I still want and need to be.

At least I have this.

I am looking forward to next week's sessions!

light at the middle of the tunnel

Last week I had a nice meeting with one of the directors from the after school program, Amazing Minds.  It went so well that I was given (and happily accepted) a job for this coming school year. I will be able to work on my days that I am not nanny-ing so that is a bonus. It sounds like a wonderful and well-established program and I hear great things about it. I am so very grateful for this opportunity and I cannot wait to be back in a classroom setting and in front of students who are eager to learn something new and fun for an hour.

Who knows where this door will lead?! I just know that I am thrilled for this chance to once again be back in a joyous setting that I have dreamed of being in for these past couple of years.

It is the light in the middle of my tunnel :) And I will excitedly take it!

Now I just have to wait to start in September.

I am NOT surprised

I just stumbled upon this article at yahoo/monster. Let me tell you how NOT surprised I was to read that elementary education (the college degree I have) is the second on this list of "worst-paying degrees".

2. Elementary EducationTeaching is a noble career. While teacher salaries are low, job opportunities for teachers are expected to grow by 14 percent this decade, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Starting median salary: $32,400; mid-career median salary: $44,000

I suppose I am thrilled to hear that in the next decade more teaching job opportunities will become available but let's be honest, in ten years won't a lot of jobs that are currently struggling be better to find?! Also, I better not be hired for my first full time position when I am 34 or I will be even more pissed off....

At least this article made me laugh a sad, un-shocked laugh.

Do any of you have a college degree that is on this list?
