Book Club

I was so excited when I found this link-up the other day because I love link-ups AND books :)

Thanks, Heather!

This week I read:

Rewarding job as a local doctor on Cape Cod?  Check. Cute cottage of her very own?  Check. Adorable puppy suitable for walks past attractive locals? Check!  All she needs is for golden boy and former crush Joe Carpenter to notice her, and Millie will be set.

But perfection isn’t as easy as it looks—especially when Sam Nickerson, a local police officer, is so distracting. Sure, he needs a friend after being dumped by Millie’s fortune-hunting sister, but does she really need to enjoy his company that much? He is definitely not part of her master plan.  But maybe it’s time for Millie to start a new list… (courtesy of her website)

Kristan Higgin's Fools Rush In. I love Kristan's books, they are so light, funny and quick to read. They provide a scenic setting of a New England town and of course there is the romance/falling in love part :) Yes, I am a hopeless romantic! I give it an A.

Next, I read:

Sam, Bonzi, Lola, Mbongo, Jelani, and Makena are no ordinary apes. These bonobos, like others of their species, are capable of reason and carrying on deep relationships—but unlike most bonobos, they also know American Sign Language.
Isabel Duncan, a scientist at the Great Ape Language Lab, doesn’t understand people, but animals she gets—especially the bonobos. Isabel feels more comfortable in their world than she’s ever felt among humans . . . until she meets John Thigpen, a very married reporter who braves the ever-present animal rights protesters outside the lab to see what’s really going on inside. Sara Gruen's most recent novel, Ape House. I finished this book in under a day, it kept me reading for sure. When I first read the summary of it I thought I wouldn't like it or it would be weird but it was actually pretty good. I did think that there were a couple parts that were unnecessary to the main story lines but I liked the characters and the twists. However, I thought the whole "ape house" aspect was pretty wacky and far fetched so I was glad it wasn't present during the whole book. Also, it was interesting to learn about the bonobos; I liked the ending and I was glad it didn't go in the direction I thought it would. I give this a B/B+ since it had me hooked.

What have you read?
